A friend of mine recently played some of their music for me and I was impressed. I have really enjoyed all of the songs I have listened to thus far and I can't say that about a lot of groups.

I don't have a favourite between Tarja and Annette though. I like both of them for different reasons.

So, anyone else here a fan?

the most I can say about nightwish is they have great instrumentals most of the time that can get me in the mood to write.

speaking of song that they wrote three years ago made me come up with a small short story. I will post it tomorrow once i get the kinks out. Smile

but that's my extent on them Smile

Steve... Nightwish is metal. I'm a known headbanger. If you wanted to know about Nightwish all you had to do was ask Razz

I know Dinwar is a fan of theirs too, if I recall. I know we've talked about it either on this forum or its chat, or on PI when it was still up. The Islander is probably my favourite song all time. Its incredibly poetic without sounding forced and pompous.

I've only heard of Nightwish because my housemate is a huge metal fan and plays them a lot (and also has posters up in his room). I also know quite a lot of Fins who are big fans - metal is huge over there!

For metal, I quite like them. I'm not normally a *very loud* music fan, it all depends on my mood, but I am a BIG Phantom of the Opera fan and I really liked Tarja's voice for their cover of the title song.

My housemate's seen them live a couple of times - been to some festivals in Finland. They're meant to be fantastic live.

Would be cool to see them live!

Brian: I always forget you are also a Metal fan. Not quite sure why I keep forgetting that fact though. Might be my advancing age...

The Islander is great.

I also really like Bye Bye Beautiful, Nemo and Wish I had an Angel.

I can attest to how awesome Nightwish are. They're the first metal concert I went to. Cool

I've introduced the Graphics Department of my office to Nightwish. They now are all hooked. Very Happy Tarja also helped me convince my mother that she did not, in fact, know enough about metal to comment on it. She was talking about how metal is just people growling and screaming. Pretty much anything by Tarja (Annette would work too, but there was a specific song that Tarja sang, same song Celtic Women sang) disproves this.

A few favorites:

The second one....The symbolism in the video is amazing. The Valkyrie, the reason a sword is one of the most beautiful weapons ever devised. I can look past the fact that the guys in the tin suits can't fight.

This song is also pretty good: The Seer, a solo song by Tarja. Not exactly Nightwish, but related.

Gonna have to disagree with you here. Nightwish always makes me want to pick up a blade and find someone to fight. It's the combination of metal and the female vocals--puts you in the mood to fight, and reminds you WHY you fight (or at least, why you should).

Ehhh, it depends on the song. The reason I like Nightwish is they have a lot of variation to their music thats all good.

For instance, the Islander isn't a song that makes me want to fight Razz

Very Happy I love Nightwish! The Islander amuses me because of that one line about an albatross and my friends made a group in high school where we were the Pirates of the Headless Albatross (I still wear my shirt Very Happy). Actually, Nightwish just reminds me of high school in general and I love it. One of my top favorite bands.
