| Let's get this show on the road. I'm starting this thread not because I think it's time to start reading, but rather to give people plenty of time to nominate books. I don't think we'll actually start conversing about titles until after the holidays, which is a particularly busy time of the year, I hear. Nominate titles that you have either never read, or are very interested in re-reading. I want to try to get people the opportunity to experience new reads. Also, keep your lists relatively small... the bigger the list the harder it is to pick and choose... You can always nominate more later down the line. To make it fair: If your novel is one that is chosen, you won't be able to nominate another book unti after the next book. So without further ado, here are my suggestions: The Talisman (Stephen King/Peter Straub) - Fantasy/Horror The Mists of Avalon (Marion Zimmer Bradly) - Arthurian Legend Patriot Games (Tom Clancy) - Political Thriller I Am Legend (Richard Matheson) - Sci Fi

| Well, you've certainly stolen Calwyn's thunder. As for books. Like I mentioned in the thread, instead of voting for books. Just have one person choose a book. And the 'equality' factor will be letting another person choose the next book. You've got four books up there, I'd throw another four, and perhaps others add another six books. That's 14 books. So then do we vote amongst those books? Do we only let each person nominate one book? etc. Sorry to get all 'attacking', but this isn't the easiest nor fastest way to choose books. I have a nomination that would help purify all of you blasphemous sinners... The Qur’an otherwise known as the Koran.

| I'm not stealing Brian's thunder. I'm confiscating it based on eminent domain. We aren't shooting for fast here. I don't think we intend to start until after the new year. The point is I want people to post some titles, and then we will go from there.

| I might as well throw in some books that I've bought but haven't worked up to reading right? Though I don't think i'd mind reading the LotR books. I haven't done that.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks Black Company by Glen Cook

| Since I have this book and have yet to read it, I'll nominate The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. I would nominate Harry Potter but I know it won't get chosen and rainshadow would refuse to read it I own most of the books on this list so that's good. | |

| A Game of Thrones, but I already know that's a divisive book... so: 1 The Fifth Profession - David Morrell (Highest recommendation goes here!!) - Spy/International Thriller 2 Lies of Locke Lamora - Stephen Lynch - Urban Fantasy 3 The Prestige - Christopher Priest - Science Fiction 4 Across the Nightingale Floor - Lian Hearn - Historical Fiction/Fantasy | |

| Actually, I would read GRRM. I would not read Harry. Good call Beth. I do have my pride. I would say the most likely contributers have made contributions (I love redundancy... LMAO). The next step should make it fun. Look at the list of folks to have suggested a book. Pick one book from each person who has nominated titles, but not one of your own: My short list: Prof X: The Third Magic Calwyn: A Game of Thrones talonnolan: The Sword of Shannara Nicci: Eye of the Dragon Pyro: The Prestige Just noticed that lilab has yet to nominate. I'll adjust my post accordingly. Two of the five I chose because I'm interested in reading them. One I chose because I'm willing to give it anoher crack. The other two I chose because I had not heard of them but I'm more than willing to try something new. | |

I'm personally voting for lalib's nomination if I have to choose Beth would also like to mention that she really has the hots for lalib. Something about knowing how to make a suicide vest without blowing himself up is a real turn on.

| Your original list was accepted, Steve. Here is the final tally (listing only those with the most votes for each member). Steve: Fellowship of the Ring (3 votes) Peter: The Sword of Shanna (4 votes) Beth: The Eyes of the Dragon (5 votes) Alec: The Fifth Profession (2 votes) Austin: The Talisman (3 votes) Brian: A Game of Thrones (5 votes) While A Game of Thrones technically had 5 votes (Alec never officially nominated the title) in the end it got 7 votes (or 8 if I let Steve vote for it twice, which I don't). As the "official" winner of this one, it gets the automatic qualifier. It'll be one of two books you can choose from. I'm going to set up a poll for the other five titles right now. | |
